Montes Maris is our way of sharing the places that have shaped us
Our homes are located in two regions we know intimately and love deeply: the Sierra de Cádiz in southern Spain, and the Costa Vicentina along Portugal’s southern Atlantic coast. Though different in terrain and rhythm, both offer a kind of beauty that’s hard to name — raw, quiet, and expansive.
Each property in our collection reflects a sense of modern simplicity, with clean lines, honest materials, and an openness that allows the landscape to flow in. We work with local artisans and architects who understand the soul of the place, and we stay involved in every detail — from restoration to final touches — to ensure that each home feels both grounded and elevated.
Where your stay supports something greater
Every stay at a Montes Maris property helps support the work of the Luena Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to protecting and empowering vulnerable children and families around the world. A portion of every booking goes directly toward Luena’s grassroots programs — from psychosocial support for displaced children to sustainable food access and education initiatives.
About Our Family
Wandering Together, Finding Home
We’re a family of five who left the U.S. in 2009 to travel the world — a journey we documented on our blog. What began as an open-ended adventure gradually led us to the Iberian Peninsula, where we now split our time between southern Spain and Portugal’s west coast — when we’re not off exploring new corners of the world.
In 2019, we founded the Luena Foundation in memory of Luena, the beloved daughter of close friends in the village of El Gastor. The foundation supports vulnerable children and families through grassroots programs around the world. With Montes Maris, we’ve brought together the places we love and a purpose we care deeply about — offering guests meaningful stays that also give back.
